Walk Reports

SALTASH TO FORDER

Seven of us set out on a dry sunny day from Saltash descending to the picturesque village of Forder.

We opted out of the Castle path because of the steepness of the hill and considering all the rain that had fallen lately and continued along the shoreline overlooking the Naval training ship in the creek. Once we turned inland into the wood and through the vineyard we hit mud.

There were a few skids but no injuries and everyone who hadn’t walked the area before thoroughly enjoyed it even though we had a steep climb up to Saltash to rejoin the cars.

PETER TAVY CIRCULAR

Ten of us set out in pouring rain including two new members Pam and Richard and each were given a copy of the map as no recce had been done. Unable to park in the Church grounds due to a funeral taking place we managed to get permission from the Pub Landlord.

The first section was a gentle climb up to the top of Smeardon Down and the rain eventually eased off for about 20 minutes for everyone to dry off. The views were amazing and after a brief coffee break the rain started again so we soldiered on. Lesley had her photo taken beside Boulters Tor which was her first Tor and then we turned directions at Stephens Grave. The terrain was good until we came to the flooded track of Wedlake Farm.

After trying to follow the track with our sodden maps Keith came up trumps again with his Ordnance Survey App. After another hill a cheer came out as the spire of the Church at Peter Tavy was spotted through the hedge. We took the easy route down the tarmac road as several walkers were very wet and cold. The pub was given a miss as everyone just wanted to get home and out of their wet gear.

There were a few smiley faces so I hope we haven’t put any of the walkers joining us on future short walks.
