7th May - Visit to Devonport & Energy from Waste Combined Heat & Power Facility. 10.00-12.00.

4th June - Visit to Lord Mayor's Parlour, tour of Council House and Council Chambers. 10.00.

2nd July - Emily Hobhouse Museum, St. Ive, Nr Liskeard.

August - No Meeting.

3rd September - John's Jaunts. A walk in the Durnford Street Area.

1st October - Meeting Room at Plympton Library - TBC.

5th November - The Box. Exhibition - The Way We Live.

December - Christmas Meal - date T.B.C.

2026 VISITS

Thursday 4^th June.  Visit to the Lord Mayor’s Parlour and the Council Chamber

We were privileged to be able to make this visit. Thanks go to Councillor Sally Nicholson who arranged the visit for us. We were welcomed by Sally, Kevin the Mace Bearer and The Lord Mayor Kevin Sproston.

We learnt so much about the history of the many artefacts on display and also the proceedings of the Council, it was a fascinating morning. We were lucky enough to be shown the diamond necklace which Lady Astor gifted to the City of Plymouth so that successive Lady Mayoresses could wear it on special occasions.

7^th May visit to Plymouth Energy from Waste Combined Heat and Power Facility

A group of 13 took part in this visit which was highly interesting. We could not fail to be impressed at all that goes on at this facility. We all learnt so much!

April: Visit to the Minster Church of St. Andrew, Plymouth

11 members of the Local History Group visited the Minster Church of St. Andrew on 2^nd April. We used a map and information leaflet to help us study various points of interest. I was fascinated by the Sir Francis Drake graffiti on a window sill.

The stained-glass windows designed by John Piper are beautiful, we were able to enjoy them in their full glory as the sun was shining through them.

We recently had a talk at a General Meeting about the Pinwill sisters so it was interesting to see the figure of the Christ Child carved by Violet Pinwill.

On Thursday 5^th March 10 members of the Local History group visited The Box to view the exhibition Beryl Cook: Pride and Joy.

The exhibition marks 100 years since Beryl’s birth and it features more than 80 works, some rarely seen.

It was a very enjoyable and uplifting visit.

We always welcome new members to join this group.
