The group takes a topic each month and explores the meaning of the words used in that particular sphere.

We have talked about pictures and artists; adverbs for movement; fireworks; cheese; summer activities, and trees and gardens.  At a recent meeting we talked about place holder nouns (words used when you can't remember the correct term) which led to some lively discussion on regional terms, accents and register.

We then talked about a favourite book/author with regard to language - Frederick Backman, Richard Templar, Harper Lee, Alison Weir, Georgette Heyer, Mary Wesley and Terry Pratchett.  Themes discussed included: self-development, inspiration, prejudice, racism, history, strong female characters, the use of other languages and cultures, and puns.

New members are welcome.
