Point of Contact - Heather

Should you be new to our u3a, then it may be helpful for you to know that we are not a walking group – some of us can't walk too far, or too fast, or would prefer not to walk up hills.

Nor are we a camera group.

Nor do we choose specific themes for our walks.

We are a group which likes to stroll at a leisurely pace.  Some of us bring our cameras – well, we used to, but these days I think we all simply bring our mobile phones! - and stop along the way to take photos.  Because we are strolling, the pace allows for us not to be left behind!  We used to share our photos with a Flickr account, but since COVID I think it would be fairer to say that we take photos for our personal use.

We use public and private transport for our outings, depending upon whether any car-driving members of the Group are joining a particular outing!

We have become a fair-weather group, meeting once or twice a month between April and October.  Although this doesn't stop us being caught out by the weather occasionally, we do sometimes change our destinations at short notice!

In addition we have a Christmas Social and preliminary planning meeting in late November, with a further planning meeting in March.

We are a small group now, with about fifteen members at the moment.  The days of having a surplus of car-driving members able and willing to offer lifts for visits are gone, and as I mentioned some of the trips we take are by bus. But members are quite happy to see these journeys as part of the day out, with an opportunity to chat with friends.

If you would like to join us for an enjoyable stroll in pleasant company, which invariably also includes a “lunch stop”, please contact me.

PROGRAMME FOR 2026

As previously reported, having put together a Programme which would take us to pastures old and new, we were thwarted by the weather!

We were able to visit some of the proposed destinations, and very successful days out they were, but were also rained off and heatwaved-off from achieving others!  The places we did visit included Dartington Hall Gardens, Castle Drogo, Mount Edgcumbe, Looe and Tavistock.

Our one remaining date for this year is Thursday, November 26th - Christmas Social and planning, at St Mary's Church Hall, Market Road, 11.00 am until 1.00 pm. Refreshments provided by ourselves.
